Osun Election: INEC Gives Fresh Update As Voting Continues

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has described the ongoing Osun State governorship election as peaceful and orderly, while providing an update on the opening of polling units across the state.

According to Ireporter Online, the electoral commission disclosed on Saturday that voting commenced in most polling units, with 3,556 out of the 3,763 polling units in the state operational as of 8:30 a.m.

The figure represents 94.5 per cent of all polling units scheduled for the election. INEC explained that the remaining 207 polling units, accounting for 5.5 per cent, experienced minor delays but were fully operational by 9 a.m.

The commission also confirmed that the activation of Registration Area Centres (RACs) had been completed ahead of the election. According to INEC, the exercise was concluded at 6:09 p.m. on Friday.

The electoral body said the preparation and deployment of personnel and materials proceeded without major disruptions, describing the opening of polling units as peaceful, orderly and timely.

The election has attracted significant attention as incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeks another term under the Accord Party. He is facing competition from All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam and other contenders.

INEC has continued to provide updates on the election as voting progresses across the 30 local government areas of the state.
