2027: “He Didn’t Perform as Governor” — Sowore Takes Aim at Peter Obi

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the record of former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning his capacity to address the country’s challenges if elected president in 2027.

Sowore made the remarks on Monday during a panel session at the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he also engaged former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over the records of political leaders who have previously held public office.

Speaking during the discussion, Sowore argued that Nigerians should scrutinise the past performance of politicians seeking to lead the country rather than focus solely on their current political image or popularity.

He specifically challenged Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, alleging that his administration failed to provide adequate support for education and other essential public services.

According to Sowore, prolonged industrial actions involving lecturers and medical doctors during Obi’s tenure raised questions about the former governor’s commitment to public-sector welfare and education.

The AAC candidate maintained that while some Nigerians may admire Obi personally, his previous record in government should be considered when assessing his suitability for the presidency.

Sowore further argued that politicians who have previously occupied public office must be prepared to account for their achievements and shortcomings before asking Nigerians to entrust them with greater responsibilities.

His comments have added another layer to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Sowore positioning himself as a strong critic of politicians who have previously held influential government positions.

Obi has yet to publicly respond to the latest criticism attributed to Sowore.
