He Is an Impostor” — APC Rejects Ogun Governorship Aspirant
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Senator Adeola Olamilekan as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, dismissing the claim by Abayomi Hunye that he holds the party’s ticket.
APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, describing Hunye as an “impostor” and insisting that he is currently suspended from the party.
Basiru stated that the APC had concluded its governorship primary election, during which Adeola emerged as the party’s candidate, with Balogun Abiodun selected as his running mate.
According to the party’s national secretary, the details of both candidates had been submitted through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with official acknowledgement slips reportedly issued to confirm the submission.
Basiru further disclosed that Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition originating from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He said the suspension was subsequently ratified by the relevant party structures in Ogun State and communicated to the national secretariat.
The APC official alleged that Hunye’s suspension was connected to activities considered detrimental to the unity and image of the party, including alleged anti-party conduct and actions capable of causing division among members.
Basiru therefore rejected Hunye’s purported claim to the APC governorship ticket, describing it as false and unauthorised and accusing him of attempting to mislead members of the public.
He maintained that Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the party’s duly nominated candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
The APC also warned individuals, groups and organisations against entering into political or financial dealings with Hunye while he allegedly presents himself as the party’s candidate.
The party urged its members and supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing the need to avoid actions capable of disrupting the political process or public peace.
