Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has explained why she turned down a House of Representatives ticket offered to her under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to IREPORTER ONLINE, Yesufu disclosed her decision during an interview with Symfoni TV, where she explained that accepting the ticket would have required her to agree to certain conditions that conflicted with her principles.

The activist stressed that she was unwilling to compromise her integrity or make decisions that would go against her values simply to gain political power.

Yesufu maintained that political positions should not be pursued at all costs, noting that she has no intention of forcing herself into office or making promises she cannot keep.

She further declared that she would not participate in any arrangement that could compromise Nigeria’s interests, insisting that her commitment to the country remains more important than securing a political position.

According to her, several individuals involved in the political process had presented conditions and expectations that she was not prepared to accept.

Yesufu said her decision was ultimately guided by principle, adding that she would rather reject a political opportunity than sacrifice her convictions for power.

She also stressed that she would not make promises to Nigerians merely to secure votes if she knew she could not fulfil them after assuming office.
