According to Ireporter Online, the Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has removed its chairman, Hassan Haruna, from office following the expiration of a 14-day window granted to him to appeal his suspension. The party said the decision followed Haruna’s failure to respond to allegations of constitutional breaches and anti-party activities leveled against him.

In a circular dated February 2, 2026, the ADC stated that instead of addressing the claims, Haruna allegedly escalated actions described as unconstitutional. The party accused him of circulating a purportedly fake list containing 20 handpicked individuals, which he presented as a parallel set of local government chairmen for the party.

The circular further alleged that Haruna convened an unauthorised meeting on the same day the party’s National Chairman, Atiku Abubakar, was engaged in consultations with stakeholders in Abuja on the party’s development. During the meeting, Haruna was accused of referring to the recognised state leadership in derogatory terms.

Following these developments, the ADC directed Haruna to immediately hand over all party responsibilities to the Deputy Chairman, Hassan Tabla. The party also dismissed the alleged resignation of the state secretary, stressing that the appointment of Mallam Ya’u by Haruna was invalid and held no legal standing.

The party maintained that any leadership vacancies within the state chapter must be filled through a properly convened meeting involving all stakeholders duly recognised by the national leadership.
