Newborn Baby Found Abandoned Inside Sack In Edo Community

A newborn baby girl has been rescued after she was allegedly abandoned inside a sack at Obaretin Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

According to reports, residents discovered the infant at about 7 a.m. on September 18, 2026, and immediately alerted the police at Ologbo Police Station.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, stating that the baby was promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention.

According to the police spokesperson, medical personnel examined the infant and certified her to be in good health.

Ikoedem said the police had commenced an investigation to identify the baby’s parents and establish the circumstances surrounding her alleged abandonment.

She added that relevant authorities had been contacted to ensure the infant was provided with appropriate care and a safe place to stay while efforts were made to trace her family.

The police appealed to members of the public who may have information about the identity or whereabouts of the child’s parents to report such information to the appropriate authorities.

The command assured that the investigation would continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident while prioritising the safety and welfare of the rescued newborn.
