Protest Erupts In Taraba As Hoodlums Break Into Female Hostel, Allegedlyn R@pe Studet

Hundreds of students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Science, Jalingo, have staged a peaceful protest following an overnight attack on a female hostel located outside the institution’s premises.

According to reports, the attackers invaded the hostel in the early hours of Monday, September 11, 2026, allegedly dispossessing students of their mobile phones and other valuables.

A female student was reportedly sexually assaulted during the incident and sustained injuries, including an injury to one of her fingers.

Sources said the victim was subsequently taken to a hospital in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo for medical treatment.

A students’ union official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to concerns about possible victimisation, said the incident was the second reported attack on students’ hostels within two weeks.

According to the official, some hostels were reportedly raided the previous week, with attackers allegedly stealing phones and other valuables belonging to students.

“Yesterday night, the hoodlums came in their numbers and attacked one of the female students’ hostels,” the official said, alleging that one of the students was sexually assaulted while the attackers took phones and other valuables.

The official further alleged that the victim sustained an injury to one of her fingers during the attack and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo.

The development reportedly prompted hundreds of students to stage a peaceful protest, with the students expressing concerns over their safety and calling for stronger security measures around their accommodation.

The students’ union official said students had raised concerns with the college authorities after the previous attack. According to the official, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education subsequently visited the institution and promised that security would be improved.

The latest incident has renewed concerns among students over the safety of hostels located outside the college premises.
