Full List: Names Of 37 Miners Who D!ed In NSCDC Custody Emerge

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has released the names of 37 suspected illegal miners who reportedly died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.

According to the organisation’s international peace ambassador, Awaisu Giwa, the victims were among scores of suspects arrested during anti-illegal mining operations conducted on September 15 and 16 around the Lt. Gen. Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate in Minna, the Niger State capital.

Giwa said the initial list of names was obtained from the records of the General Hospital, Minna, where the bodies were reportedly deposited.

He explained that the list was initially prepared by a mortuary attendant on the instruction of the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD). According to him, four additional names were later provided after relatives of missing persons approached the commission.

Giwa said the commission intended to obtain an official copy of the list on the hospital’s letterhead to formally support its efforts to seek compensation for the families of those who died.

He said the commission had begun receiving reports from relatives searching for family members who were among those arrested during the operations.

The names released by the IHRC are:

Ibrahim Sani, Fahad Sa’adu, Abdulsalam Ismail, Usman Aliyu, Abubakar Alhaji, Sani Nasir, Sanusi Khalid, Ahmad Aliyu, Safiyanu Abdullahi, Suleiman Dantala, Idris Haruna, Sani Yakubu, Safiyanu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar, Abubakar Musa, Abdul Mudassir, Suleiman Lawal, Usman Abdullahi, Samuel Sambo, Ibrahim Musa, Yusuf Nasiru, Umar Lawal, Isyaku Amisu, Bissallah Adamu, Abdulbari Suleiman, Shafisu Lado, Usman Ahmad, Usman Ibrahim, Sani Isyaku, Musa Ibrahim, Idris Bashir, Kabiru Suleiman, Emmanuel Emeka, Mu’awiya AbdulKarim, Abdul Gafar Abubakar, Usman Haruna, and Yaro Salihu Soba.

The IHRC noted that Mu’awiya AbdulKarim, Abdul Gafar Abubakar, Usman Haruna and Yaro Salihu Soba were not included in the initial General Hospital list but were subsequently identified through information received by the commission.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation, while the commission said it would use the official documentation to support efforts aimed at securing compensation for the affected families.
