Tinubu Set To Appoint Wike As FCT, Rivers APC Campaign Council Coordinator

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly considering appointing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to coordinate his campaign structure in Rivers State and the FCT ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to reports, the proposed arrangement is intended to give Wike a defined role in the campaign while allowing him to retain his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The arrangement would reportedly seek to utilise his political network without formally placing him within the hierarchy of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike has previously stated that he supports Tinubu’s re-election while maintaining that his support does not amount to joining the APC. He has also said that the PDP remains free to field candidates in other elections.

The reported proposal comes amid disagreements between Wike and some APC governors over the organisation of political support for Tinubu ahead of 2027. Wike has publicly accused the governors of Imo and Kwara states, Hope Uzodimma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of working against him.

Wike has also previously said he intends to mobilise support for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT, where he claims to retain significant political influence.

Meanwhile, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari has already been appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council announced by Tinubu in August. The official campaign structure also names Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senior political figures in various roles.

Reports on the proposed arrangement indicate that the campaign structure may not operate through a single chain of command, with some senior figures expected to have distinct areas of responsibility rather than reporting directly to Yari.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is also reportedly being considered for a prominent communications role in the campaign. Keyamo previously served in a senior communications capacity during Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign.

The proposed role for Wike has not been formally announced by the Presidency or the APC at the time of this report. As such, the reported appointment remains an emerging arrangement rather than a confirmed appointment.
