Osimhen Fires Message To Galatasaray After Samsunspor Setback
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen has urged Galatasaray to quickly put behind them their heavy 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor, stressing the need to remain focused as the Turkish Super Lig title race enters its decisive phase. The forward made the remarks following Saturday’s setback, insisting that the result should not disrupt the club’s ambition of sealing the league title in their upcoming fixtures.
Osimhen, who contributed an assist for Yunus Akgün’s early opener in the ninth minute, acknowledged that the team failed to maintain control of the match as they eventually collapsed at the Canik 19 May Stadium. He noted that the squad must regroup immediately, emphasizing that victory in their next home game remains the priority to officially secure the championship.
The striker admitted the disappointment within the camp, stating that the encounter was always expected to be challenging but conceding that Galatasaray did not perform at their best. He further apologised to supporters while maintaining confidence that the team would respond positively in their next outing.
The match also saw a costly second-half error from Osimhen that contributed to goalkeeper Günay Güvenç receiving a red card, further compounding Galatasaray’s difficulties on the night.
Despite the defeat, Galatasaray remain top of the league table with 74 points, holding a four-point advantage over closest rivals Fenerbahçe with two matches remaining. A win in their next fixture against Antalyaspor would secure back-to-back league titles for the Istanbul giants. Osimhen, who completed a permanent move from Napoli last summer, continues to enjoy an impressive season, recording 20 goals and eight assists across all competitions.
