Iddo Bridge Shutdown: Lagos Issues Traffic Diversion Notice

According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area.

The closure, according to the government, is to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works on the bridge.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government explained that the project involves the installation of heavy steel bridge beams, a process that necessitates intermittent closure of the facility to ensure safety.

The statement noted that the entire section of the Iddo Bridge will be shut to vehicular movement during specified periods to guarantee the safe installation of the steel structures and to protect motorists, workers, and other road users.

The scheduled closure periods include Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Motorists have been advised to make use of alternative routes during the disruption. Those travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain are directed to use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.

For road users coming from Marina heading towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain, the government advised descending the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, linking Oyingbo and continuing through Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, motorists moving from Ijora Olopa or Apapa towards Carter Bridge or Marina are to divert through Eko Bridge, connect Apapa Road, and proceed via Murtala Muhammed Way through Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.

The state government appealed for patience and cooperation from commuters, noting that traffic management officials would be deployed to the affected corridors to ensure smooth vehicular movement and reduce inconvenience during the closure periods. It added that the diversion plan forms part of broader measures to support ongoing bridge rehabilitation works in the state.
