A high-level delegation from the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Presidential Media Team arrived in Abia State on Tuesday to assess federal and state government projects as part of a nationwide initiative to highlight developmental achievements under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and various state governments.

According to government officials, the delegation’s visit forms part of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour, an exercise designed to showcase infrastructure and development projects across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

Speaking with journalists after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the team’s visit as significant, noting that it reflects the strong working relationship between the Abia State Government and the Federal Government.

He explained that the collaboration between both administrations has resulted in key projects, including the ongoing airport development and the recently inaugurated Renewed Hope Housing Estate project in the state.

Kanu stated that members of the presidential media team would tour different parts of Abia to inspect road projects and other developmental initiatives spread across the state’s 17 local government areas. The visit is expected to conclude with a civic reception hosted by Governor Otti in honour of the delegation.

The commissioner also announced that the state’s ultra-modern bus terminal in Umuahia has officially commenced full operations. He disclosed that operators within the informal transport sector have begun relocating to the facility as part of the government’s broader plan to streamline and modernise transportation services in the state capital.

According to him, the rollout will be implemented in phases, beginning with the Abia Green Shuttle buses, followed by informal transport operators before extending to formal transport companies.

Kanu noted that although stakeholders have expressed satisfaction with the new facility and its operations, some transport operators initially resisted the relocation due to the challenges associated with adapting to change.

He revealed that about 39 transport operators are involved in the relocation exercise and confirmed that enforcement measures commenced on Tuesday to ensure full compliance with the government’s directive.

The state government maintained that the initiative is aimed at improving orderliness, enhancing commuter safety and increasing efficiency within Umuahia’s public transport system.

On infrastructure, Kanu reaffirmed the Alex Otti administration’s commitment to sustained road construction and rehabilitation across Abia State, stressing that work is ongoing despite the progress already recorded.

He said the projects are intended to improve connectivity, open up communities and stimulate economic growth throughout the state.

The commissioner further disclosed that the Ministry of Women Affairs, in partnership with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, will commemorate the International Day of the Boy Child on June 16, 2026, as part of initiatives promoting social development and family welfare.

In addition, he announced that the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, working alongside the Office of the Wife of the Governor, is marking the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with public enlightenment campaigns focused on protecting the rights of senior citizens and promoting available support and reporting mechanisms for abuse cases.

The activities will also include engagement with elderly persons, community leaders and development partners on the implementation of the Senior Citizens Policy Framework, while strengthening collaboration with healthcare institutions and social protection agencies to improve prevention, reporting and response systems for older persons.

Kanu reiterated that the Otti administration remains focused on infrastructure renewal, social welfare programmes and strategic partnerships aimed at improving the quality of life for residents across Abia State.
