Peter Obi Hints 2027 Could Be His Final Presidential Race

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has suggested that the 2027 presidential election may be his final attempt to lead Nigeria.

According to Ireporter Online, Obi made the revelation during a Sunday night interview on Channels Television, where he explained that his age and the need to create opportunities for younger Nigerians would influence his political decisions going forward.

The former Anambra State governor said any decision about contesting for the presidency beyond 2027 would depend on the outcome of the election and the prevailing circumstances at the time.

Obi noted that he would be approaching his late 60s by the 2027 election and may not have the same level of energy required to effectively handle the demands of the presidency in the years ahead.

“It depends on who wins. But I can tell you, I’m coming to the end of it because I believe that the younger ones should be allowed,” Obi stated.

The NDC candidate explained that leading a country requires strong physical and mental capacity, adding that age is an important factor when considering such a demanding responsibility.

He said he would be about 68 or 69 years old in 2027, and serving another two terms after that could place him close to 80, a stage where he believes his energy level may not be the same.

Obi further stressed the importance of allowing younger Nigerians to take up leadership roles and contribute their ideas towards building a better future for the country.

He maintained that his focus remains on providing solutions to Nigeria’s challenges while encouraging a new generation of leaders to emerge.
