Former Adult Film Star Amaranta Ortiz Sworn In As Colombian Senator

According to Ireporter Online, former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has officially taken her seat as a senator in Colombia after emerging victorious in the country’s March legislative elections.

Ortiz, who is widely known by her former stage name Amaranta Hank, secured the position under the Historic Pact coalition, a left-wing political alliance, with a campaign focused on improving rights and legal protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.

She will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region during the 2026–2030 parliamentary term after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed candidate list.

The Historic Pact emerged as the strongest political force in Colombia’s Senate election, securing more than 4.4 million votes, which translated into 25 seats in the upper chamber, according to official electoral data.

Ortiz’s entry into the Senate has attracted widespread attention due to her previous career in the adult entertainment industry and her decision to openly address her past while pursuing a political career.

Before joining the adult entertainment sector, Ortiz worked as a journalist and later returned to public life, where she became an advocate for the recognition and protection of workers in the industry.

She has repeatedly argued that her previous profession should not prevent her from serving in government, maintaining that people should not face discrimination because of their past careers.

Addressing critics of her political ambitions, Ortiz questioned why a woman with experience in the adult industry should be prevented from seeking elected office, insisting that every citizen has the right to participate in public service.

The newly elected senator said her legislative priorities would go beyond issues affecting adult entertainment workers, with plans to focus on areas such as mental health and efforts to combat sexual abuse.

Her election has sparked national discussions in Colombia, with supporters highlighting her advocacy work while critics continue to debate whether her background should influence her suitability for public office.

Ortiz’s rise in politics follows months after she and another former adult performer, Juan Carlos Florián, were appointed as deputy ministers in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration.

Those appointments also generated public debate over the role of individuals from the adult entertainment industry in government leadership positions.
