Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ugezu J. Ugezu has stated that Nigerians are not against paying taxes but are concerned about the possibility of public funds being mismanaged.

According to Ireporter Online, Ugezu made the remark in a video shared on his official Facebook page while reacting to ongoing discussions surrounding tax reforms in the country.

The actor explained that many Nigerians would willingly fulfil their tax obligations if they are confident that the funds would be properly managed and used for public development.

Ugezu argued that the major concern among citizens is not taxation itself but the fear that money generated through taxes could be diverted or misused by those entrusted with public responsibilities.

He stressed that Nigerians would have greater confidence in the tax system if individuals accused of misappropriating government funds are held accountable and face legal consequences.

The filmmaker noted that visible improvements in infrastructure and public services would encourage more citizens to support tax policies and contribute willingly.

Ugezu added that transparency, accountability and proper utilisation of public revenue are key factors needed to build trust between government and citizens.
