BREAKING: Sokoto PDP Chairman Resigns, Dumps Party

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, has resigned his membership of the party.

According to Ireporter Online, Goronyo communicated his decision in a resignation letter dated August 30, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman in Goronyo Ward, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The former state party chairman cited personal reasons for his decision, stating that his resignation would take effect from August 31, 2026.

Goronyo also requested that his name be removed from the PDP membership register following his decision to leave the party.

In the letter, he expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to serve and for the experiences he gained during his time in the party.

His resignation comes amid renewed political movements and defections involving major political figures and parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development adds to the growing political uncertainty within opposition parties as politicians continue to reassess their affiliations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
