Tinubu Reacts As Military Rescues 15 NYSC Members, Six Others In Kogi Forest
President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and six other Nigerians who were abducted in Kogi State.
According to Ireporter Online, the 21 victims were rescued on Monday during a coordinated Search and Rescue operation involving personnel of the Nigerian military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and local vigilantes.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, had earlier confirmed that the victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued from the Egume-Ochaja forest stretch in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Reacting to the development, Tinubu said the rescued victims were receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.
The President commended the security personnel involved in the operation for their courage and determination, while also appreciating the families and relatives of the abductees for their patience and understanding throughout the ordeal.
Tinubu said the successful rescue demonstrated the commitment of his administration to protecting Nigerians and ensuring that citizens can travel across the country without fear.
He disclosed that security agencies had continued their pursuit of the kidnappers responsible for the abduction, assuring that those behind the crime, as well as anyone found to have assisted them, would face the full weight of the law.
The President directed security forces to maintain pressure on criminal elements across the country, stressing that his administration would continue to prioritise the safety of Nigerians and the protection of lives and property.
Tinubu also reassured parents and families of NYSC members that his administration remained committed to providing a safer environment for corps members serving across the country.
He praised the men and women of Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies for their efforts and reaffirmed the government’s determination to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities.
