Woman Arrested For Allegedly Smuggling Illicit Drugs Into Ogun Prison

A woman who visited an inmate at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been arrested after correctional officers allegedly discovered substances suspected to be a psychoactive drug concealed inside a sachet of beverage.

The incident occurred during a routine security screening at the entrance of the custodial facility on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.

According to the statement, the woman arrived at the facility at about 1:33pm to visit an inmate on death row.

During the mandatory screening, correctional officers reportedly found a sachet of Milo containing substances suspected to be “colos,” a street term commonly associated with a psychoactive substance.

The discovery, according to the Service, underscored the vigilance of its personnel and its determination to prevent prohibited items from being taken into custodial facilities.

Following her arrest, the woman was reportedly handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

The statement said the incident demonstrated the importance of strict screening procedures at custodial centres to prevent the introduction of prohibited substances and other restricted items.

The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers involved in the arrest, describing their action as a demonstration of vigilance and professionalism.

Adesina reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance towards drug trafficking and other criminal activities within custodial facilities.

He stressed that correctional centres were established to support the reform and rehabilitation of inmates and should not become channels for the circulation of illicit substances.

The command subsequently warned members of the public against attempting to compromise the security of custodial facilities by taking prohibited items into the centres.

It further cautioned that anyone found engaging in such activities would be made to face the full weight of the law.
