Tinubu Reviews APC Campaign Council Over ‘Corrupt’ Names — See Who Escaped the Shake-Up

Sources within the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a review of the proposed composition of the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council following concerns over some of the names included in the list.

According to reports reaching Ireporter Online, the review was prompted by concerns that the inclusion of certain individuals could create a negative impression and send the wrong political signals ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

President Tinubu is expected to serve as chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, are designated as Vice Chairmen I and II respectively.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, is expected to serve as Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been named as Secretary.

However, the proposed membership has generated controversy, with some party stakeholders questioning the inclusion of individuals who have faced allegations or corruption-related cases.

Sources familiar with the development said the concerns go beyond the inclusion of controversial names. Some experienced political figures who were expected to contribute to the campaign were reportedly left out, while other omissions were said to have occurred as a result of administrative errors.

The inauguration date for the campaign council has consequently not been announced, as the Presidency and the APC leadership are said to be working on a final version of the list.

Despite the review, indications are that the top leadership of the council will remain unchanged.

A senior source in the Presidency reportedly disclosed that the Director-General and Secretary would not be affected by the ongoing adjustments, stressing that the exercise is focused mainly on the wider membership of the council.

The source explained that the leadership structure had already been settled, while the membership would be adjusted to remove names considered unsuitable and include individuals whose experience could strengthen the campaign.

“Everything is being done in the Villa,” the source stated, adding that the review followed concerns over individuals who should not have been included and the exclusion of others considered valuable to the campaign.

The source further noted that political interests often influence the composition of such structures, making reviews and adjustments a normal part of the process.

Another individual familiar with the previous campaign council said the development should not be considered unusual, recalling that the initial list for the 2023 election was also withdrawn and amended following observations before the council was eventually inaugurated.

The latest review is therefore expected to produce a revised APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council that balances political considerations, experience and public perception before its formal inauguration.
