According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress and Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National Vice President, Dayo Amusa, has urged actors to actively promote every film they feature in, stressing that their responsibilities extend beyond delivering performances on set.

In a message shared with members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria via her Instagram page, Amusa noted that many actors still operate under the belief that their work ends once filming is completed. She argued that the realities of today’s film industry require actors to play an active role in ensuring their projects reach the intended audience.

The actress explained that while acting remains a vital part of filmmaking, promoting completed projects has become equally important. She maintained that any actor whose image appears on a movie poster also has a responsibility to support publicity efforts.

Amusa emphasised that promoting films should not be viewed as doing producers a favour but as an investment in one’s own career, reputation and future opportunities within the industry.

Highlighting the importance of self-promotion, she outlined several benefits, including strengthening an actor’s personal brand, increasing the commercial success of films, protecting the effort invested during production and contributing to the overall growth of Nollywood.

She observed that actors often have stronger connections with audiences than official movie pages, making their social media platforms powerful tools for driving cinema attendance and streaming performance.

Drawing comparisons with Hollywood, Amusa noted that international actors routinely participate in promotional campaigns for their films, adding that a similar culture would help Nollywood achieve greater recognition, improved earnings and stronger global influence.

She encouraged all actors to make film promotion a standard professional practice by supporting publicity campaigns through social media posts, media interviews and attendance at movie premieres throughout the promotional period.

Amusa concluded by urging her colleagues to remain visible, proud and supportive of their craft, saying collective efforts in promoting Nigerian films would ultimately benefit both individual careers and the growth of the country’s film industry.
