The Federal Government has appointed a United States-based physician and academic, Dr Olugbenga A. Awe, as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State.

According to an official letter dated July 30, 2026, the appointment was signed by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and took effect from July 29, 2026.

Awe succeeds Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, who recently took up another national assignment following her appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea.

The new FUTA Pro-Chancellor is a medical doctor, university lecturer, entrepreneur and education administrator with extensive experience spanning medicine, academia and higher education management.

In his new role, Awe is expected to work with other members of the governing council to oversee issues concerning the administration, development and strategic direction of the university.
