Peter Obi Reveals Why He Left ADC — Ononuju Shares Details

Political analyst Katch Ononuju has explained why former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and subsequently left the opposition platform.

According to reports, Ononuju made the revelation during an interview with SYMFONI TV, where he discussed Obi’s decision to enter the ADC and conversations he had with the former governor before the move.

Ononuju recalled that he had advised Obi against joining the opposition coalition at the time, but Obi reportedly believed that remaining outside a political structure would limit his ability to negotiate for political power.

He explained that Obi felt he needed to be within the political space and engage from inside the system if he wanted to have a meaningful role in the struggle for power.

Ononuju said he ultimately chose not to join Obi in the arrangement, adding that several other political figures also decided to remain outside the coalition.

Recounting his conversation with Obi in Enugu, Ononuju said the former governor told him that he could not effectively negotiate for political power while remaining outside the political “room.”

“When Peter Obi said, ‘I don’t like you going to ADC,’ what he told me in Enugu is, ‘Look, the people said I can’t negotiate for power staying outside the room. I need to go into the room to go and negotiate with power,’” he quoted Obi as saying.

Ononuju explained that after Obi joined the platform and subsequently found that the political arrangement could not provide the opportunity he had expected, the former governor publicly announced his decision to leave.

“So, he went in there, and when there’s no way… he now gave that public conference that he’s gone there and there is no way for him. So, the natural thing is he gets out,” Ononuju added.
