There Is No Shutdown” — Woman Behind Opay Shutdown Report Breaks Silence
A user, identified as Cute Hafserh, has apologised to OPay after sharing a claim that the digital financial services company would suspend its operations indefinitely from September 1, 2026.
According to reports, the apology came after OPay rejected the claim as false and misleading and warned that it could take legal action over the publication.
Hafserh, who uses the handle @Haifah_Er_Abba on , subsequently deleted the post and clarified that OPay remained fully operational.
The controversy started after a report claiming that OPay would shut down its operations from September 1 began circulating on social media. Hafserh later reposted the claim on her account, prompting a response from the fintech company.
OPay, through its Chief Legal Counsel, Akinfolabi Moses Rokosu, dismissed the report and demanded that the publication be removed.
The company described the information as false and misleading, warning that the claim could misinform customers and negatively affect its reputation.
In response, Hafserh acknowledged that the information she shared was inaccurate. She explained that the claim had already been circulating online for several days before she reposted it.
In an apology addressed to OPay, she said, “Earlier yesterday I shared a post on my page about OPay going on an indefinite break starting from 1st September 2026, which had been circulating for days before I shared it on my account.
“I have come to the notice that it was false and misleading information.”
Hafserh confirmed that she had deleted the post and urged members of the public to disregard the shutdown report.
She further stated, “I have taken down my post. @OPay_NG operations are normal, and there is no break or shutdown.
“I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and for reposting misleading information. Thank you for your understanding.”
The development effectively put an end to the shutdown rumour, with OPay continuing its operations despite the claim that had circulated on social media.
