Bandits Abduct Traditional Ruler In Kano Community

Armed bandits have reportedly abducted the traditional ruler of Aujarawar Alkali community in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The monarch, Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, popularly known as Ruwata, was reportedly taken away during a late-night attack on the community on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to reports, the attackers, who were said to be heavily armed, invaded the community before abducting the traditional ruler and taking him to an unknown destination.

Mahi Isma’il, spokesperson to the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.

Isma’il described the abduction as a serious and distressing development, noting that it had raised fresh concerns over the safety and security of residents in the area.

The statement added that the incident had heightened fear within the community, with residents, families and local leaders expressing concern over the monarch’s whereabouts and safety.

Reacting to the development, the District Head of Jogana, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji, appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the monarch’s release and strengthen security across vulnerable rural communities.

“We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head,” Ma’aji said.

He also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while cooperating with security personnel by remaining vigilant and providing useful information that could assist ongoing efforts.

Ma’aji further called on members of the public to pray for the safe release of Ahmad, expressing hope that the abducted traditional ruler would soon return to his family and the people of Aujarawar Alkali.
