16-Year-Old Refuses To Open Gate For Dad Who Returned Home After 11 PM

A man has shared a humorous account of how his father reportedly found himself on the receiving end of a strict household rule he had enforced for years.

According to the account, the father had a standing rule that no one in the family was allowed to ask another person to open the gate after 11 PM. Anyone who returned home late was expected to have their own keys or risk being locked outside.

The man said his father would often remind members of the household that they were old enough to plan their movements and should therefore be responsible for gaining access to the house if they arrived after the stipulated time.

However, the rule reportedly came back to haunt the father when he returned home around 11:10 PM one night after dinner and discovered that he had accidentally left his keys at the restaurant.

According to the man, his father called his 16-year-old son and asked him to open the gate. The teenager reportedly checked the time before reminding his father of the rule.

“Dad, it’s 11:10. You’re old enough to plan your time,” the boy reportedly told him before switching off the porch light and returning to bed.

The man said his father and his wife eventually gave up on getting into the house and decided to find alternative accommodation for the night.

“My dad just called me today laughing. Apparently, he and his wife eventually gave up, went back out, and booked an Airbnb for the night,” he reportedly said.

Reflecting on the incident, the man noted the irony of his father becoming the first person to experience the consequences of a rule he had established and enforced for years.

“Imagine creating a rule, enforcing it for years, and then being the first person to suffer from it,” he added.

The father reportedly returned to the restaurant the following morning to retrieve his keys, as the establishment was said to have been too far away for him to return to that night.
