Meet Eric Chelle’s New Super Eagles Invitees

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has handed first-time senior international call-ups to George Ilenikhena, Isaac James and Moses Usor as he unveiled a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.

According to reports, Nigeria are scheduled to host Madagascar in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29. Tanzania are also in Group L of the qualifying campaign.

The three new invitees earned their places after impressive performances for their respective clubs and will be hoping to make their senior international debuts for Nigeria.

Ilenikhena, 20, has been rewarded for his strong start to the season with Al Ittihad. Born in Lagos, the forward began his career with French side Amiens before moving to Royal Antwerp, where he continued his development and attracted interest from Monaco.

He later gained prominence at Monaco, particularly through his performances in the UEFA Champions League, before joining Al Ittihad earlier this year. Despite initial fitness setbacks, Ilenikhena has reportedly enjoyed an impressive start to the new season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in nine appearances across all competitions.

The youngster previously represented France at youth level but has since committed his international future to Nigeria. With Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu reportedly dealing with fitness concerns, Ilenikhena could have an opportunity to make his Super Eagles debut during the upcoming qualifiers.

James, 22, has received his first senior invitation after establishing himself as a left-back for Portuguese club Alverca. His performances have reportedly caught the attention of Chelle, particularly with Zaidu Sanusi sidelined by injury.

The defender will have the opportunity to compete for a place in the Super Eagles squad and could also feature in Nigeria’s scheduled friendly against Russia on October 6, providing another potential chance to earn his international debut.

Usor, 24, completes the trio of new invitees after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Austrian club LASK. The Nigerian forward played an important role as the club secured a league and cup double last season.

LASK also secured Champions League qualification for the first time in the club’s history, further highlighting the significance of Usor’s campaign.

He will now look to translate his club form to the international stage as he begins his senior career with the Super Eagles under Chelle.
