13 Popular Influencers Who Took Over Nollywood

According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood is witnessing a major transformation as social media influencers increasingly transition from digital entertainment spaces into mainstream acting roles, changing the traditional pathway into the Nigerian film industry.

For decades, the Nigerian movie industry was largely dominated by formally trained actors and individuals with established connections within the entertainment sector. However, the rise of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and X has created a new route for aspiring entertainers to gain recognition and secure major roles.

Through comedy skits, lifestyle content, fashion videos, and reality television appearances, several digital creators have built loyal audiences who now follow them into cinemas and streaming platforms. Their existing popularity and strong connection with fans have become valuable assets in securing acting opportunities.

Among the influencers who have successfully crossed into Nollywood is Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie. The content creator made her acting debut in Simple Lie in 2023 and has since appeared in productions including Gingerrr, Ile Owo, Flatmates, and Netflix’s Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.

TV host and influencer Tomike Adeoye also transitioned into acting, featuring in Jenifa’s Diary, Ègún, Ajosepo, and Mistakenly Yours. Similarly, media personality Toke Makinwa made her Nollywood debut in Makate Must Sell and later featured in projects such as Glamour Girls, The Waiter, and Finding Me.

Lifestyle influencer Enioluwa Adeoluwa, who previously worked behind the camera, has also expanded his career into acting with appearances in All of Us, Oversabi Aunty, and The Return of Arinzo.

Popular skit maker Isaac Olayiwola, better known as Layi Wasabi, moved from viral courtroom-style comedy videos to Nollywood productions, starring in films including Adire, Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and After 30.

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan, popularly known as BamBam, has also established herself as an actress after beginning her career in reality television. She has featured in projects such as Inspector K, Backup Wife, Foreigner’s God, and Love in Every Word.

Other digital personalities who have successfully embraced acting include Saga Adeoluwa, Vee Iye, Neo Akpofure, Papaya Ex, Mr Macaroni, Broda Shaggi, and Kamo State.

Mr Macaroni, whose real name is Debo Adedayo, has become one of the most recognised skit makers to make a successful Nollywood transition, featuring in notable productions such as Ponzi, Ayinla, Anikulapo, Freedom Way, and Lisabi: The Uprising.

Broda Shaggi, another prominent comedian and two-time AMVCA Best Actor in a Comedy winner, has also built an impressive acting profile with appearances in Inside Life, Namaste Wahala, The Bling Lagosians, and Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner.

According to industry observers, the growing presence of influencers in Nollywood reflects a new era where audience reach, relatability, and digital influence are becoming as important as traditional acting experience.

With streaming platforms increasingly seeking entertainers with ready-made fan bases, the boundary between social media influencer and professional actor continues to fade, opening new opportunities for digital creators in Nigeria’s booming film industry.
