2027 Politics: Two Lawmakers Defect To APP

Two serving members of the House of Representatives and a former federal lawmaker have defected to the Action Peoples Party (APP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers are Boma Goodhead, who represents the Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency of Rivers State, and Alozie Ikechi, representing the Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency of Abia State. The former lawmaker is Uju Chima, who previously represented the Oguta/Ohaji-Egbema/Oru West Federal Constituency of Imo State.

According to Ireporter Online, the development was announced by Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, an APP chieftain and member of the House of Representatives representing the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State.

Ugochinyere disclosed that Goodhead, Ikechi and Chima had already been listed as APP candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections.

Welcoming the trio into the party, the lawmaker described their move as a boost to the APP and expressed confidence in their political prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the party was pleased to receive politicians he described as committed to democratic values and independent-minded leadership.

“Our party is excited to have great democratic fighters like you in our midst,” Ugochinyere said.

He further described the APP as a platform for a new generation of politicians seeking to move away from what he termed traditional approaches to politics.

According to him, the party is positioning itself as a political home for individuals who want citizens’ interests to remain at the centre of governance.

“APP is a political home for independent-minded, new-generation politicians seeking to change old ways for a new way that is dominated by the people’s interests,” he stated.

Ugochinyere subsequently wished the three politicians success as they prepare to contest the 2027 elections under the APP platform.
