The verdict was delivered by the Federal High Court in Onitsha, Anambra State, under the jurisdiction of Justices S. M Shuaibu and Hauwa Inuwa. The charges against the fraudsters included obtaining money through false pretenses, possession of fraudulent documents, personation, and aiding in committing offenses.

The arraignment, initiated by the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC, led to guilty pleas from all 41 defendants. Despite pleas for leniency from their defense counsel, the court emphasized the gravity of their actions and handed down the sentences.

Moreover, the court ordered the convicted individuals to engage in community service as part of their punishment, in accordance with Section 462 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. Additionally, items seized from the perpetrators, such as mobile phones and laptops, will be auctioned by the EFCC, with proceeds deposited into the Treasury Single Account.
