Abduction Of Catholic Priest Sparks Concern In Zamfara

In a troubling development early Saturday mornig, Reverend Father Mikah Suleiman, the parish priest of St. Raymond Catholic Church in Damba, Gusau, Zamfara State, was abducted from his residence by suspected bandits. The incident, confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, has prompted swift action from authorities to ensure his safe return.

Father Mikah Suleiman was taken from his rectory around 3 am, according to reports. The police, though not notified immediately after the incident, have since deployed a tactical squad to pursue the kidnappers and secure the priest’s safe release.

Confirming the incident, Yazid Abubakar stated, “We have deployed our tactical squad to go after the kidnappers with the aim of rescuing the victim unhurt.” The Catholic community, led by the acting Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Very Reverend Father Nuhu Iliya, has issued a heartfelt appeal for prayers and solidarity during this distressing time.

In a statement addressing the faithful, Very Reverend Father Nuhu Iliya urged, “We invite all Christ’s faithful and all men and women of goodwill to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release. We equally commend him to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests.”
