ADC’s Nwosu Condemns Ogboji Massacre, Demands Urgent Security Reforms in Anambra

John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, has called for decisive action to halt the escalating violence in the state. His reaction follows Monday’s deadly attack in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area, where gunmen stormed a meeting venue in two SUVs and gunned down 13 people.

The victims, predominantly from Ebonyi State but residing in Anambra, were attending a community meeting when the assailants opened fire, leaving several dead and others injured.

In a personally signed statement, Nwosu described the massacre as a devastating consequence of leadership failures in safeguarding lives and property.

“No society can prosper under the constant threat of violence and lawlessness,” Nwosu lamented. “I categorically condemn this heinous, senseless slaughter of innocent citizens in Ogboji. This unprovoked attack has plunged the community into deep mourning and revived fears over the worsening security climate in Anambra.”

He stressed that every life lost to violence is a tragedy, adding that the Ogboji incident is an unacceptable blight on the state’s collective conscience.

While awaiting a full police investigation, the ADC candidate insisted it was time to move beyond isolated interpretations and acknowledge the broader security crisis that has rendered many communities vulnerable.

“The primary duty of any government is to protect lives and property. Yet, Ndi Anambra continue to live in fear,” Nwosu said.

He demanded a thorough, unbiased probe and swift prosecution of those behind the attack, warning that there must be no “sacred cows.”

“Only then can true healing begin for the victims, and a strong message be sent that impunity has no place in Anambra,” he stated.

Nwosu also challenged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to step up, asserting that the ADC’s Comprehensive Security Agenda, as outlined in his campaign, holds the key to ending insecurity across the state.
