ADF Calls For Unconditional Release Of IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

This call comes in the wake of Kanu’s rearraignment by the Federal Government and subsequent denial of bail by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

During a press conference held in Enugu after an executive meeting of the ADF, Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie, the President of the foundation, underscored Kanu’s right to self-determination, emphasizing that it is enshrined in both the United Nations Charter for Human Rights and the African Charter for Human and People’s Rights.

Awuzie expressed deep concern over Kanu’s continued incarceration, particularly in contrast to the government’s approach to insurgents, such as Boko Haram fighters, who have been granted amnesty and reintegrated into society. He labeled Kanu’s detention as a violation of social justice and an infringement upon his fundamental rights.

Furthermore, Awuzie called upon the South East Governors to collaborate in devising a comprehensive development plan for the Igbo nation, aimed at harnessing the region’s abundant human and material resources. He stressed the importance of infrastructural development, including a robust rail system, to connect key economic centers within the Igbo region.

In concluding, Awuzie reiterated the ADF’s commitment to championing the aspirations of the Igbo people within the Nigerian federation while steadfastly pursuing their right to self-determination. The ADF’s stance reflects a firm dedication to securing justice, equality, and progress for the Igbo community amidst prevailing socio-political challenges.
