AEISCID Urges Umahi To Allow Successor To Govern, Cautions Against Interference (Details)
The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID) has advised the Minister of Works and Housing, David Umahi, to refrain from interfering with the governance of his successor, Governor Francis Nwifuru, and cease threats regarding second-term tickets.
In a statement issued on Monday, AEISCID President Paschal Omaka cautioned Umahi against impeding Nwifuru’s ability to lead the state effectively. The group emphasized the importance of Nwifuru taking decisive control over governance and serving the people who elected him.
AEISCID urged Umahi to focus on his national duties, particularly the construction of cement-technology roads across Nigeria, instead of meddling in Ebonyi’s affairs. The group expressed skepticism about the sustainability of Umahi’s road technology, citing failures of concrete roads built during his tenure as governor.
Concerns were raised by AEISCID over Umahi’s continued influence in Ebonyi’s governance, alleging his tendency to exert control over his successor and hinder Nwifuru’s autonomy in decision-making. The group pointed to Umahi’s involvement in the selection of local government chairmen as evidence of his lingering influence.
Despite potential denials from Nwifuru’s government, AEISCID highlighted the apparent challenges faced by the current administration in asserting its independence, attributing slow progress and limited democratic dividends to Umahi’s perceived interference.
AEISCID underscored the need for Nwifuru to break free from Umahi’s influence and prioritize the welfare of Ebonyi residents. The group urged transparency and accountability in governance, emphasizing the importance of allowing elected officials to fulfill their mandates without external pressures.
