AFCON: Governor Sanwo-Olu Reflects On Nigeria’s Defeat To Ivory Coast

Sanwo-Olu also encouraged the Super Eagles to regroup and strive for success again.
In a series of tweets on Monday via his X account, Sanwo-Olu also extended congratulations to William Troost-Ekong for clinching the Player of the Tournament award.
“It’s truly disheartening to witness the Super Eagles’ defeat. They poured their hearts into this tournament, but ultimately, victory eluded them by narrow margins,” the governor tweeted.
“Throughout the tournament, we brought together thousands of individuals to revel in football across 25 viewing centers as our team carried the aspirations and dreams of the nation.
“In triumph and in defeat, this team has brought us immense pride, and we will forever cherish this AFCON as a unifying force that united us all.
“Kudos to William Troost-Ekong for earning the title of AFCON Player of the Tournament.
“Hats off to our champions; let’s regroup and push forward once more.”
notes that Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller secured the victory for Ivory Coast, clinching their third AFCON trophy, while William Troost-Ekong’s goal wasn’t enough for Jose Peseiro’s men.
