In his address titled, “Rising to the Greatness of Our Calling,” delivered during the Senate’s resumption after the Yuletide break, Akpabio emphasized the importance of legislative action in shaping Nigeria’s future. He urged his colleagues to include a commitment to national service in their New Year resolutions.

“Let us resolve to recommit ourselves to the task of transforming Nigeria into the nation of our dreams—the pride of Africa and a beacon of hope for the world,” Akpabio said.

He highlighted the immediate task of reviewing the national budget, describing it as more than a financial document but a blueprint of the aspirations of millions of Nigerians. He stressed the need for the budget to reflect equity, justice, and development.

The Senate President also underscored the importance of completing electoral reforms ahead of the next electoral cycle. He referred to it as a moral imperative to strengthen democracy and ensure a transparent and credible system that reflects the will of the people.
