Amotekun Foils Human Trafficking Attempt, Rescues Five Boys In Osun

In a swift operation, operatives of Amotekun in Osun State have apprehended a suspected human trafficker, Isaac Okonu, 23, and rescued five children from his clutches.

The arrest, carried out in Ifetedo, Osun State, came after the driver of the vehicle transporting them raised suspicions, prompting immediate action from the vigilant Amotekun operatives.

Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi, the Commandant of Osun Amotekun Corps, disclosed that the suspect had deceived the young boys from Akwa-Ibom State, promising them employment in Lagos. However, he was intercepted before reaching his destination.

According to Adewinmbi, the suspect confessed that the boys were to be taken to a farm in Osun State, having lured them from a motor park in Akwa Ibom State under false pretenses.

The rescued boys, aged between 10 and 23, narrated their ordeal, stating that they were taken without their parents’ consent and misled about their destination.

Identified as David Dominic Udoh, Moses Ibom Sunday, David Sunday Okafor, Wisdom Ukpong Bassey, and Hope Nwem Eto, the victims were deceived into believing they were bound for Lagos for employment opportunities.

Following their rescue, the suspect and the victims have been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) Headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation and legal action.

The swift response of Amotekun underscores its commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable individuals within the state.
