APC Reveals: Lobbyists Furious After Being Excluded In Tinubu’s Bold Cabinet Reshuffle

In an interview with The Punch, APC National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, commended Tinubu’s decisive action in reorganizing his cabinet. The changes included the removal of five ministers, the appointment of seven new ones, and the reassignment of 10 others. Ibrahim highlighted that Tinubu’s primary aim is to enhance cabinet efficiency rather than satisfy political pressures.

The reshuffle removed key ministers such as Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development). This move has faced pushback from opposition leaders, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Labour Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who argue the reshuffle fails to address critical national issues or reduce governance costs.

PDP Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor dismissed the reshuffle as a “token gesture,” while SDP National Chairman Shehu Gabam called for a complete cabinet overhaul. Labour Party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh questioned whether these shifts would yield tangible benefits for the public, and APGA National Chairman Sylvester Ezeokenwa remarked that while cabinet reshuffles are common, this one seems ill-timed.

In response, Ibrahim argued that opposition complaints are largely a result of their exclusion from the reshuffled cabinet. He noted that Tinubu’s cabinet changes align with his broader reform goals to streamline government functions and cut costs. According to Ibrahim, these changes reflect Tinubu’s commitment to accountability, with ministers expected to meet clear performance metrics.

Ibrahim concluded by emphasizing that reshuffles are standard in governance, highlighting that previous administrations, including Buhari’s, demonstrated stability with minimal changes. He praised Tinubu for having the courage to implement necessary adjustments for an efficient government.
