Just In: 19 Traditional Rulers Step Down In Bold Move Sokoto

This notable move, formalized in a statement released last Tuesday, includes leaders from influential regions such as Sabon Birnin Gabas, Tsilba, and Sabon Garin Danbaki.
The resignations follow the earlier departure of Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Bawa, the District Head of Sabon Birni, who stepped down on October 16, 2024, citing that date in his resignation letter as his official last day. His resignation appears to have set off a broader shift among local traditional leaders aligning with emerging political forces.
Ward heads from key areas, including Magajin Dawakin, Dan Faru, and Zumbuli, are among those who vacated their roles, underscoring support for Lamido’s political initiatives. Alhaji Lauwali Shuaibu, the ward head of Taka-Tsaba, told journalists in Sokoto that the resignations were driven by Senator Lamido’s commitment to their communities’ welfare and security, particularly in response to frequent bandit attacks in the region.
Alhaji Jamilu Gwanda Gobir, former Ubandoma of Gobir, also confirmed his resignation along with about 10 other leaders, expressing a shared intention among the former traditional rulers to back politicians prioritizing the wellbeing of their constituents.
