Arsenal’s wait for another Emirates Cup triumph has continued after the Premier League champions suffered a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season encounter on Sunday.

According to Ireporter Online, Arsenal made an energetic start to the match and created early pressure, but Dortmund were the first to find the breakthrough.

Samuele Inacio opened the scoring for the German side after Dortmund capitalised on an opportunity in the Arsenal defence.

Borussia Dortmund then extended their advantage through Konstantinos Karetsas, who produced a well-placed curling effort to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

Arsenal responded before half-time as Ethan Nwaneri pulled a goal back for Mikel Arteta’s side, giving the hosts renewed hope of completing a comeback.

Dortmund, however, restored their two-goal advantage after Arsenal struggled to deal with a corner, allowing the German side to force the ball over the line.

With the score at 3-1, Arsenal intensified their attacking efforts and eventually earned a penalty.

New signing Viktor Gyökeres took responsibility from the spot and calmly converted to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

The Gunners continued searching for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Dortmund held firm to secure victory at the Emirates.

The result means Arsenal have now gone five consecutive years without winning the Emirates Cup.

Arteta’s team will have another opportunity to continue their pre-season preparations when they take on Italian side Como on Wednesday.

The fixture will provide Arteta with another chance to assess his squad and continue integrating his new signings ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
