Bauchi Governor Imposes 24-Hour Curfew on Katagum LGA Amid EndBadGovernance Protest
Response to escalating violence during the End Bad Governance protest, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Katagum Local Government Area. The decision was made following a series of destructive incidents that saw public property vandalized, thefts, and victimization of residents.
The announcement came via a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, released to journalists in Bauchi on Monday. The governor has directed security agencies to take immediate action to restore order, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they face justice.
Governor Mohammed also urged law-abiding citizens to cooperate with security measures and remain indoors for their safety. “We urge all residents to cooperate with the authorities and stay indoors to ensure their safety and help restore peace in Katagum,” the statement read.
This curfew follows the arrest of over 52 protesters last Friday for alleged violent activities during the protests, which began on Thursday. Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, updated journalists on the arrests, noting that a policeman was injured during the demonstrations. He confirmed that the arrests were made for breaches of public order and unlawful assembly across the state.
