President Tinubu Orders Crackdown on Russian Flags Amid Growing Protests in Nigeria”
Decisive move, President Bola Tinubu has instructed Nigerian security agencies to take strict action against individuals displaying Russian flags within the country. This directive emerged from a recent National Security Council meeting, as reported by Daily Trust.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, briefed State House correspondents on the current security situation, revealing that what began as peaceful protests have been overtaken by criminal elements engaging in looting and chaos. Gen. Musa emphasized that displaying foreign flags in Nigeria is considered unacceptable and will be treated as a treasonable offense.
Gen. Musa highlighted that those carrying foreign flags are often young individuals manipulated by their sponsors. The government is actively working to identify and address these sponsors to restore order. The Chief of Defence Staff underscored President Tinubu’s firm stance on safeguarding democracy and Nigeria’s sovereignty, stressing that any actions threatening national peace will not be tolerated.
The military has been put on high alert to intervene if the protests escalate further. Gen. Musa warned that subversive elements pushing individuals to display Russian flags are crossing a significant line. The President has previously urged protest organizers to suspend their actions, citing violence in several states that has led to loss of lives and property damage.
The National Security Council meeting was attended by key figures including Vice President Kashim Shetima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, among others. President Tinubu’s firm directive underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining national stability and democratic integrity amidst rising tensions.
