BREAKING: APC Loses Senate Seats (WHAT HAPPENED)
Yesterday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio officially declared the seats in Ebonyi-South and Yobe-East districts vacant. Senators Dave Umahi and Ibrahim Geidam had vacated these seats following their appointments as ministers by President Bola Tinubu.
Akpabio cited Section 68, sub-section (1)(d) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the basis for this declaration.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly initiate the process of conducting by-elections in the two senatorial districts.

Additionally, Akpabio administered the oath of office to Simon Lalong, the former Governor of Plateau State and current Minister of Labour and Employment, who now assumes the role of Senator representing Plateau South.
Having resigned from the Federal Executive Council last week as a minister to assume the role of Senator, Simon Lalong’s decision was prompted by a November 7 Court of Appeal judgment affirming him as the legitimate winner of the March 2023 National Assembly election in Plateau South.
The Senate Clerk, Chinedu Akubueze, carried out the administration of the oath of office and oath of allegiance to Lalong as per the directives of the Senate President. The former Plateau State governor, who was also the former Director-General of the now disbanded APC Presidential Campaign Council, took the oath at approximately 11:57 am.

Following his inauguration, Lalong expressed his desire to serve as a Senator, a goal he had harbored since the conclusion of his tenure as governor on May 29, 2023.
“This was my first choice, to be candid,” he stated.
“This is a moment of happiness. We are so happy that he won at the Court of Appeal.
“What Nigerians will expect is good legislation. As we know the APC has the majority and will work for the prosperity of all Nigerians”, Ganduje told reporters.
