Fubara

Damian Okoro, the legal representative for Governor Siminalaye Fubara, has not withdrawn a lawsuit aimed at preventing the Rivers State House of Assembly from impeaching his client.

At the Isiokpo Division of the Rivers State High Court, presided over by Justice Ben Whyte, the case (with suit number IHC/230/2023) between Fubara and the Assembly was called on Wednesday. Ferdinand Orbih, the counsel for the Assembly, mentioned, “Considering the resolution of the matter and as indicated in media reports, I anticipate that the claimant should withdraw this case in accordance with the resolution.”

In response, Okoro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated that he has not received instructions from his client to withdraw the case, emphasizing, “I am yet to be briefed by my client on the information circulating in the media, and therefore, I cannot take such action.”

After hearing from both lawyers, Justice Ben Whyte adjourned the hearing to January 31, 2024, to allow Okoro to consult with his client and report on any settlement reached, if applicable.
