Breaking Barriers: Aviation College Goes Nationwide For Greater Access

Speaking to the Joint Aviation Committees of the National Assembly during the 2025 budget defense, Keyamo highlighted that NCAT has faced challenges accommodating its growing student population, necessitating the purchase of private residences in Zaria, including the acquisition of Zaria Hotel as an annex.

“Zaria has been a pride for us since its establishment in 1964, producing top-notch pilots and receiving global recognition, including commendations and certifications from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),” Keyamo said.

However, he noted that the burgeoning student population has led to significant space constraints. “The question is, do we keep buying more houses within Zaria to accommodate the growing demand, or do we create additional campuses across the country to make aviation training more accessible?” he asked.

Drawing a parallel with the Nigeria Law School, which initially began in Lagos but has since expanded to multiple campuses nationwide, Keyamo argued that other regions deserve equal access to aviation training facilities.

“It’s a single country with a population of over 240 million people. Just like the law school now has campuses in places like Ebonyi and Yola, we must extend the same opportunity to aspiring aviation professionals in other parts of the country,” Keyamo added.

The minister underscored the importance of equity and accessibility, stating that decentralizing aviation training facilities would enable students from across Nigeria to access world-class training without being constrained by location.
