BREAKING: Court Stops Gov Otti In Abia (DETAILS)

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Government of Abia State, and the Panel of Inquiry on Recovery of Government Properties and Funds, which was set up in June by Governor Alex Otti.

According to the court papers, the interim injunction orders the respondents to refrain from inviting, summoning, interrogating, harassing, intimidating, arresting, detaining, or seizing any property belonging to the applicants.

The order also prevents any adverse dealings with the applicants, their children, family members, or anyone connected to them, specifically concerning their tenure as public officers in the Abia State government between 2015 and 2023. The injunction will remain in effect until the court hears and decides on the substantive motion on notice.

The court also allowed for a departure from Order 43 Rule 3 (2) of the High Court of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) (civil procedure) Rule 2018, stating that the interim orders granted shall not lapse until the hearing and determination of the applicants’ substantive originating motion on notice.

The substantive suit is scheduled for hearing on August 15, 2023.

It’s worth noting that Governor Alex Otti had previously established a panel of inquiry on the Recovery of Government Properties and Funds, led by Justice Florence Duruoha-Igwe (retired).
