BREAKING: Former PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur Is D**d
Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.
According to Ireporter Online, the prominent businessman and veteran politician died on Saturday at his residence in Abuja following a prolonged illness.
Tukur’s family confirmed his death to TRT Afrika, bringing an end to the life of a politician who played significant roles in Nigeria’s political and public affairs over several decades.
The late politician was a former governor of Gongola State and served in various capacities during different periods of the country’s political history.
Tukur was also appointed Minister of Industries during the military administration of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
A prominent figure in Nigerian politics, he was involved in political activities dating back to the Second Republic and later emerged as a major figure within the PDP.
He eventually became National Chairman of the party, a position that placed him at the centre of several major political developments and internal affairs of the PDP.
Tukur had also expressed interest in becoming Nigeria’s president before taking on a leadership role within the PDP.
He is survived by 17 children.
Funeral arrangements indicate that Tukur is expected to be buried on Saturday at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa in Yola, Adamawa State.
His death is expected to prompt tributes from political associates, former colleagues and members of the PDP, as the country remembers his contributions to Nigeria’s political history.
