President Bola Tinubu has put forward Abbas Balarabe as a ministerial replacement for the former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

This announcement was conveyed in a letter read by Senate President GodsWill Akpabio during the plenary session on Tuesday.

Balarabe’s name was mentioned alongside Dr. Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande, who were earlier nominated by the president as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths respectively.

Back in August, El-Rufai’s name was notably absent from the list of ministerial nominees confirmed by the Senate.

During the screening exercise, Senator Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West) presented several petitions against the former governor. In particular, Karimi raised concerns about insecurity in Southern Kaduna.

While acknowledging El-Rufai’s past accomplishments, he stressed that the issue of security, unity, and cohesiveness of the Nigerian nation needed to be addressed.

After his presentation, the Senate President refused to accept the petition, stating that several petitions were submitted against various ministerial nominees.
