Reports indicate that the building, intended for commercial use upon completion, crumbled during the early hours of Sunday, March 10, while construction workers were present on the top floor.

An excavator reportedly swiftly mobilized to the location to commence the clearance of debris and potential rescue efforts for any individuals trapped.

Verifying the occurrence, Chike Mmaduekwe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, revealed that the construction approval granted was for a three-story structure, yet the developer deviated from the plan and initiated the construction of a five-story building.

This incident follows less than two weeks after a building collapsed in the Oduigbo area of the Ochanja market in Onitsha.
