During a briefing held on Sunday, February 11, NTSB member Michael Graham revealed that wintry weather conditions played a significant role in the fatal incident that claimed six lives.

Graham explained, “The team methodically and systematically reviews all evidence and considers all potential factors to determine the probable cause of the crash.”

The tragic flight, operated by Orbic Air LLC as a Part 135 charter flight, had two crew members onboard, with reports indicating rain and wintry mix weather conditions at the time of the crash.

Regarding the passengers’ identities, Graham stated that details would be released through the coroner’s office, highlighting that the helicopter lacked cockpit voice recorders or flight data recorders.

As the investigation unfolds, the NTSB will scrutinize various aspects including the helicopter’s airworthiness, maintenance, operations, meteorology, and air traffic control, with the involvement of relevant parties such as the FAA and Orbic Air LLC.

Additionally, the BEA, France’s aviation accident investigation agency, will serve as an accredited representative due to France’s status as the manufacturer of the Airbus helicopter and Turbomeca engine, emphasizing the international dimensions of the tragedy
