In his post-match remarks, Arteta disclosed that his players urged him to introduce the 16-year-old onto the pitch.

Nwaneri made his inaugural senior appearance of the season as a substitute in the 77th minute, stepping in for Gabriel Martinelli.

Arteta conceded that he had not initially planned to utilize the teenager during the match.

He remarked, “There’s a certain level of trust you need to earn within your team, and that is the trust of your teammates. I observed two significant things.

“Firstly, the players on the bench were whispering, ‘Bring Ethan in!’, which was a positive thing to hear.

“Secondly, it’s when your teammates consistently pass you the ball. If they do so, it’s because they truly have confidence in you, and you can see how frequently he was involved in the game. It’s an encouraging sign.”
